One of my Brooklyn photos, printed by Carl Weese.
I spent a good afternoon yesterday with Connecticut photographer Carl Weese (here’s his website), who guided me through some of his processes for scanning and inkjet printing, with both 35mm and large format sources. One of the most enjoyable parts of my time spent with him was looking through his project of drive-in theatres taken with large format cameras and having him describe his concerns both when taking the pictures and when he set about printing the current set. The drive-ins are from all across America, often found in disrepair just before being razed to the ground. It’s a great project. Some of his drive-in series can be found here, but keep in mind that in person they are much more evocative, low contrast, and subtle.
